Common Questions About Training
The stuff people actually want to know before they sign up.
What age can my puppy start training?
Puppies can start at Zoom Room as early as 8 weeks old. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommends early socialization even before full vaccination — in a safe, controlled setting, which is exactly what our indoor gym provides. The sooner your puppy starts meeting new dogs, people, and experiences in a positive way, the more confident they'll be for life.
What training methods does Zoom Room use?
Positive reinforcement — always. We reward the behaviors we want to see more of, and we never use punishment, corrections, or aversive tools like prong collars or shock collars. This isn't just our preference — it's what every major veterinary behavioral organization recommends. Positive reinforcement builds trust between you and your dog, and trust is the foundation everything else is built on.
Do I stay with my dog during class?
Yes — always. You're in the room for every class. Our motto is "We don't train dogs; we train the people who love them," and we mean it literally. You'll learn the skills alongside your dog so the training actually transfers to life at home, on walks, and everywhere else.
How long are dog training classes?
Group classes are typically 45 to 60 minutes — enough time to work on skills with your dog around other dogs and handlers, without anyone getting mentally fried. Dogs learn better in shorter, focused sessions, and honestly, so do people.
What's the difference between group classes, workshops, and private training?
Group classes are our core program — ongoing, flexible, and built around a skill-based levels system. You attend when it works for your schedule and advance as you and your dog master milestones. Workshops meet on a set day and time for a defined number of weeks (usually three or six), focused on specific topics like scent work or tricks. Private training is one-on-one instruction tailored to your specific goals — it's especially effective for challenges like leash reactivity or recall. Most people start with group classes and add workshops as they progress.
